Williams' luck improves as Barrichello leads final Jerez day - The second testing stint in Spain draws to a close

Published by Christine

After a troubled week of mechanical gremlins, Williams found their week ending on a high as Rubens Barrichello led the final day of testing in Jerez. Barrichello's time was set early on in the day, making him the first and only driver of the week to drop into the 1m 19s.

Kamui Kobayashi finished the day second for Sauber and Fernando Alonso was third for Ferrari. Bruno Senna came in fifth in the Renault - taking over the wheel from Nick Heidfeld yesterday who had ended on top of the timesheets. Towards the end of the day, the weather turned damp, but that didn't put off another packed crowd who enjoyed a full day's testing.

There were a handful of red flags throughout the day with leader Barrichello and second-place Kobayashi causing two of them, the Sauber ending up in the gravel. Jérôme D'Ambrosio had a difficult day, as the Virgin Racing driver came to a halt out on track, and was subsequently stuck in the garage for several hours as the team made some repairs.

Paul di Resta also struggled in the Force India. He finished the day at the wrong end of the timesheets, having also run off into the gravel after the car developed suspension problems.

With four days testing in Jerez now complete, F1 will next move on to Barcelona. Beginning on Friday, the teams will return for another four-day stint at the Circuit de Catalunya.
