After a terrible start to the test yesterday, with poor conditions causing red flags throughout the session, Mugello testing really got underway today. This time there were no less than four drivers who completed more than 100 laps, with Michael Schumacher the star pupil of the day. The Mercedes driver, after not setting a time yesterday, went on to complete 144 laps today, finishing 8th fastest.

Romain Grosjean was at the top of the timesheets as the session began winding down, but Kamui Kobayashi came storming through to set exactly the same lap time. The Sauber and the Lotus finished the day on the same pace, with Grosjean completing 10 more laps than Kobayashi.

It’s always good to end the day on top, but we have to remember that in testing lap times mean very little. Having said that, the car felt great and I was very comfortable from the start. This test gives us an opportunity to try things that we wouldn’t have time to do during a race weekend, so hopefully it’ll help us to keep pushing forward.

- Romain Grosjean

Behind the two top times, Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel edged out his teammate for third place, whilst Felipe Massa couldn't match Alonso's day one headlines and finished fifth overall.

Towards the back, Bruno Senna was back in the car for Williams, after Valtteri Bottas took a turn yesterday. Senna completed 100 laps but his time was the slowest of the day.

Some longer runs this afternoon for Bruno... getting through our programme for today
