The stewards were kept busy after qualifying investigating three separate incidents. They penalised Marcus Ericsson for a collision with Felipe Massa that knocked both drivers out in the first session. They opted not to take any action on an impeding incident between Daniil Kvyat and Pastor Maldonado, and then they started looking at Nico Rosberg.

The driver's last minute run off track brought out yellow flags that guaranteed his own pole position, but after deciding there was something to investigate, they found there was no penalty to be given. The German retains his pole position for his home race.
