Schumacher takes the day two top spot in Jerez with 2011 car - Second day of testing has Mercedes lead the way

Published by Christine

It was another busy day out at the Jerez circuit, as the second day of pre-season testing came to a conclusion - with Michael Schumacher on top. The Mercedes team have been running last year's car and concentrating on building up their tyre information instead. Yesterday's front runner Kimi Räikkönen finished the day in fifth place, after spinning off into the gravel on more than one occasion.

Just as yesterday, several drivers completed over 100 laps each, with Schumacher, Räikkönen, Heikki Kovalainen and Daniel Ricciardo all reaching the century. Force India split their drivers, with both Paul di Resta and Jules Bianchi taking a turn behind the wheel.

The fabulous Kate had some insight on Twitter:

Plus another couple of interesting tweets:

Felipe said that there is a lot of work to do on the car but also a lot of potential to pull out from it. Now it is up to Fernando to carry on the programme: he will have his first touch of the new car as of tomorrow morning.

Latest feedback is that the balance is pretty good but the gusty wind is having a pretty strong affect in some corners.
