Overshadowed by the crash of Marussia driver Jules Bianchi, Lewis Hamilton took victory at Suzuka, after sweeping past teammate Nico Rosberg partway through the race. The two Red Bull drivers were behind, with Jenson Button finishing in a strong fifth place.

All thoughts remain with Bianchi, however, as the Frenchman was taken straight to hospital with a serious head injury. The crash brought out the red flags, and the race did not resume afterwards, finishing on lap 44.
