Daniel Ricciardo capitalised on a second lap incident between the two Mercedes drivers that pushed Lewis Hamilton to the back of the field and eventually out of the race, and knocked Nico Rosberg back a couple of positions. The Red Bull driver fought for the victory, with Nico clawing his way back to second, and Valtteri Bottas scooping another podium finish.

The McLaren pair were also fighting with each other, along with Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso in a four-way fight that was captivating to the very final lap. Meanwhile, other retirements included both the Lotus drivers, Jules Bianchi and debut racer André Lotterer.
