Nico Rosberg swept into the lead of the race on the first lap and never looked back, taking a dominant victory by over twenty seconds. Behind him, home favourite Daniel Ricciardo came under pressure from rookie Kevin Magnussen with both managing to pick up their first F1 podium finishes. Further back, Felipe Massa was knocked out at the first corner, whilst Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel finished early due to car issues.

Overall, four drivers suffered power unit issues, two were knocked out due to a collision and one other mechanical problem took the retirement tally to seven. Jules Bianchi wasn't classified, having started in the pit lane and failing to make up the difference despite running for the entirety of the race time.
