Felipe Massa secured his first pole position since 2008 (that fabled Brazilian Grand Prix), with teammate Valtteri Bottas making it a Williams 1-2. The pair denied Mercedes the top spot, with Nico Rosberg abandoning his final flying lap. Lewis Hamilton was already on the back foot, having his first Q3 time deleted. Pushing hard to make amends, the Brit spun off and ruined his final chance.

Elsewhere Sebastian Vettel failed to make it into the top ten, whilst Nico Hülkenberg had his Q3 time deleted - just like Hamilton - due to having all four tyres off the track. Sergio Pérez scored 11th but will face a five place grid drop for tomorrow's race.
