Mark Webber scored a superb pole position at the Yas Marina Circuit, with teammate and new champion Sebastian Vettel unable to meet him. Lewis Hamilton spun off on the final run, saying "something busted" on the car. Meanwhile, Alonso couldn't get into the top ten, and Button was disappointed with the pace of his McLaren.
