Points of view - Bernie proposes a new way of rewarding the winning drivers

Published by Christine

Bernie Ecclestone hasn't been in the headlines for a bit, so he's decided now is the time to come out and suggest a revision to the points system.

He's not happy with the small difference between winning and coming second, and would rather that winning meant more in terms of the Championship.

Supposedly, the previous points overhaul in 2003 - the current system - was put in place to stop the Ferrari dominance. Hmm..

There's not enough motivation for the driver in second place to go for the win. They weigh up the situation and decide it's not worth the risk of falling off the road just for two lousy points.

He's planning to propose the charges for 2008. This is good. This is what I like to see.
