Massa on top for first day of testing in Jerez - The second session of pre-season running gets underway

Published by Christine

Felipe Massa ruled the timesheets as testing resumed today in Jerez. The Ferrari driver finished the day over half a second faster than second-place Sergio Pérez in the Sauber, who in turn was just slightly ahead of Red Bull's Mark Webber.

Massa also completed the most laps during the day, circling the track 101 times, whilst Pastor Maldonado in the Williams managed only 14. The car suffered some mechanical gremlins with the adjustable rear wing during the first half of the day which meant they could only complete a couple of shorter runs.

Pérez caused one red flag, after stopping out on track, as did Rosberg, who's Mercedes came to a halt halfway through proceedings. Petrov was also the cause of a brief stoppage when he and his Renault spun off into the gravel. Petrov and Heidfeld will be sharing testing duties this week, as Nick is evaluated as a potential replacement for the recovering Robert Kubica.
