Mark Webber leads first day of final testing in Barcelona - Red Bull show their pace as Pérez has his lap time deleted

Published by Christine

Mark Webber has topped the timesheets on the first day of the final pre-season test, after Sergio Pérez had a last minute time deleted. Pérez had put his Sauber on top but the lap was scrapped after it was found he cut a chicane. Webber moved up to P1, putting Red Bull back on top as this final test gets underway.

Pérez was demoted to fourth place on the timesheets, which is still an impressive run after Sauber had mechanical troubles throughout the day. A lot of attention was focused on McLaren, who were running a nose with a big bump on the front - however it was established as a data collector rather than a new design. Button went on to finish the day second fastest, about three tenths off the Red Bull's time.

Four teams didn't run today, preferring to start the test tomorrow but many of the teams present had multiple drivers share the car. Lotus ran former Virgin reserve Luiz Razia and GP2 driver Davide Valsecchi. Both caused red flags throughout the day, as did Sebastién Buemi in the Toro Rosso.
