We might have mentioned this once or twice before, but it's worth discussing again methinks.

This weekend commentating legend Murray Walker is returning to the microphone to commentate on a Formula 1 race. The great man hasn't commentated on F1 since 2001 (in the UK at least) and will make his return at the European Grand Prix for Radio Five Live.

Not only will this allow UK residents a one time opportunity to avoid the perpetual agony of listening to more drivel from James Allen, it will also see Mr. Walker standing in the commentary box alongside the fabulous Maurice Hamilton. What more could one ask for?

Mike Doodson, Murray's one time race spotter, has a written a great article for Grandprix.com this week, where he talks about how he too will be making a return to the commentary box. Mike also raises a good point when he questions the Honda connection:

I'm not entirely sure how this weekend is going to work out for Murray, who has been appearing at selected GPs over the past 12 months wearing the full uniform of a Honda Racing team member, right down to the baseball cap.

Note to self: Keep an ear out for any misguided Button bias - on the radio that is... there's always misguided bias coming from the seat next to me.

Talking of which, Christine's never heard Muzza commentate on anything other than a Grand Prix Masters race, and I've never heard the man commentate on Lewis Hamilton, so this is something we've been looking forward to for a while. In preparation for this weekend we've situated our new DAB radio within close proximity of the television. Then, during qualifying and the race, ITV will be turned down, and Five Live cranked up to eleven!

Also, just in case you need more, there's going to be a special Formula One edition of the Five Live 606 Phone In, direct from Nürburgring at 7pm. Murray will of course be hosting the show.
