Second practice at Hockenheim got off to a wet start, with drivers reluctant to leave the garage. Times did start to be set, and as the track dried, Pastor Maldonado shot to the top of the times, just before the rain started again. With just half an hour of session time left, there was just time for a few slow laps, but those drivers heading out finding it hard to keep on track. Daniel Ricciardo beached his Toro Rosso in the gravel, but that wasn't as bad as Michael Schumacher who brought the session to an early end. He crashed the Mercedes, damaging the rear of the car quite badly, and causing a red flag.
