The third and final practice session in Montreal saw a familiar name sitting at the top of the timesheets, but it was the Williams of Felipe Massa in second that offered hope Mercedes may not have things all their own way come qualifying.

Elsewhere in the field, the hour long session had barely got started when Esteban Gutiérrez lost his car at the first chicane and sent it spinning into the wall. The accident briefly brought proceedings to a halt while the damaged Sauber was craned away. Kamui Kobayashi also saw out the end of his morning run sitting on the sidelines, while others found the circuit limits and then some with all manner of off-track excursions.
