The rain moved in over Silverstone, leaving the Mercedes pair to call it a day early. After just an installation lap, neither set a time, preferring to stay in the safety of the garage. Sebastian Vettel led the way, with Daniel Ricciardo behind him, and the two Lotus drivers next in line. Daniil Kvyat was the hardest working man of the session but even he only completed 15 laps.
Max Chilton suffered a gearbox problem that kept him inside the garage, whilst Fernando Alonso also opted to remain out of the rain.
