Lewis Hamilton took over the top spot as Mercedes returned to lead the timesheets for the afternoon session in Singapore. It was touch and go whether Sebastian Vettel would be able to join the running after a power unit problem in first practice. He completed only five laps but still managed to finish in fifth place.

Pastor Maldonado ended up with his Lotus in the barriers after a hefty crash, whilst Max Chilton had a more sedate ending to his running - the Marussia driver was requested to pull over and stop the car, as a small fire was developing. Ferrari continued to look fast, whilst Williams appeared to struggle for pace, finishing towards the rear of the table.
