There were two red flags during the second practice session at Spa, the first brought out by Pastor Maldonado. The Lotus driver completed only two laps before spinning off into the barriers. He was later taken to hospital for precautionary checks after the high speed crash. Sebastian Vettel was unable to participate in the session, as Red Bull had to change the power unit on the car which is a lengthy process.

Meanwhile, out front, the Mercedes pair were dominating, with Fernando Alonso best of the rest. McLaren continued to show some good pace, with Williams also right up there.
