In this week's podcast, we discussed two items that we really should keep track of. With a fabulous Australian Grand Prix done and dusted, we looked at who was our driver of the day, and how we would rate the race, scoring out of ten.

Neither of these are unusual items to see after a race, but it's the first time we've made the effort to do so, and here is where we will keep tabs of how the season progresses.

Driver of the day

It was a hot topic in the live comment thread - who did the best job on the day? Most that watched the race seemed torn between Vitaly Petrov and Sergio Pérez, and it was no different at Sidepodcast.

Mr C had Pérez for the top honours - with a stunning one-stop drive on his debut race in a Sauber. Pretty good. I wasn't so sure that you could hand driver of the day to a driver that was subsequently disqualified, even if it wasn't his fault.

I gave mine to Petrov, which isn't really a surprise.

Rate the race

As the first race of the 2011 season, Australia was boosted back into the spotlight. It's always provided great racing before, and with Bahrain taking a step back this season, we were hoping for another fabulous start to the year.

Most of the one sentence reviews I saw after the race named it as a decent start, although not a classic. I think that sums it up pretty well. Mr C handed Australia seven out of ten for the racing action, whilst I was a tiny bit more stringent with just six out of ten.

It'll be interesting to see where the season goes from here, if Malaysia can improve matters or if it'll take a while longer for the season to heat up.
