And there he was, gone // Gil de Ferran leaves Honda Racing with immediate effect

Gil de Ferran

It came as a bit of a shock to hear today, that our ex-teammate (and occasional sporting director) Gil de Ferran, has left his job at Honda F1 Racing, effective immediately.

It's a shock, because not 24 hours earlier, the guy was spotted mingling with the crowds at the Honda Open Day. I mean, if you're going exit stage left come daybreak, the last thing you want to be doing on your last day is hanging around the local village fair, right? So did he jump or was he pushed, and when was that decision taken?

Apparently Gil is disappointed to be leaving, while the team suggested he was keen to "pursue other opportunities". Rumours that he's considering taking up fly-fishing, thus far remain unfounded.

At this point it's probably a good time to consider that with Brawn on a sabbatical, Stepney on the run, Zander attending his perrenials and Coughlan lord knows where. One has to wonder who actually works in F1 any more?
