2010 Young Driver test - Abu Dhabi, Day 1 - Fresh faces make their F1 debut or return at Yas Marina

Published by Christine

It has been only moments since we saw the last race of the season, and our youngest ever World Champion crowned in Abu Dhabi. In order to save on logistics costs, the teams are running some immediate testing at the Yas Marina circuit - starting with a two-day outing for young drivers only. Of course the phrase "young driver" isn't quite accurate, as the real criteria is more to do with how much F1 running they have participated in.

Last year we went all out and covered the tests day by day, but this year we're going to allow this thread to host any comments relating to the young driver tests. Your thoughts on how the new faces are getting on, where they have been and how well they might do in F1 are very much appreciated.

Testing starts at 9am local time (5am GMT) and finishes 5pm local time (1pm GMT).

Circuit information

The Yas Marina Circuit made it's debut in F1 only last year, and already it has made quite a name for itself. From the gloriously colourful hotel, to the twilight races, to the championship decider this year, there is never a dull moment in Abu Dhabi. Oh, except there is. The track is not good for racing, with overtaking all but impossible.

Nevertheless, that shouldn't be a problem in testing.

I will update the post as and when we find useful information, and I expect Twitter will be alive with teams and drivers tweeting their progress. However, for now, here are a couple of links to get us started - they can usually be relied upon for excellent testing coverage.
