2010 Pirelli tyre test - Abu Dhabi, Day 1 - F1 drivers take over as tyre testing begins at Yas Marina

Published by Christine

The Young Drivers have had two days cruising around the Yas Marina circuit, and waving goodbye to the Bridgestone tyres, but now it's time to hand over to our drivers proper to welcome in the brand new tyres. We've got two more days in the baking sunshine of Abu Dhabi, and we're likely going to see a Red Bull on top!

Testing starts at 9am local time (5am GMT) and finishes 5pm local time (1pm GMT).

Teams have access to 4 sets of tyres per day. 2 sets of soft, 2 sets of medium rubber.

The track has been getting faster all week, and Daniel Ricciardo managed to put in a 1:38 by the end of his test. However, with new and unknown tyres strapped to the cars, we're expecting things to slow down a little again. Turkey Machine asked the question of a team member and got this response:

@Turkey_Machine difficult to say now, but I would say they will be about a second slower, even though the track has great conditions!

I will update the post as and when we find useful information, and I expect Twitter will be alive with teams and drivers tweeting their progress. However, for now, here are a couple of links to get us started - they can usually be relied upon for excellent testing coverage.
