As if the tale of Caterham’s efforts to race in the season finale at Abu Dhabi this weekend weren’t last minute enough, they’ve topped it off with a surprise signing of British driver Will Stevens for a one-off at Yas Marina. Having tested for the team before, Stevens was only just able to scrape a superlicence in time to race this weekend. His previous single seater experience includes World Series by Renault and Renault 3.5.
He says: “I feel ready for the challenge of my F1 debut and look foward to working as part of the team in a race environment after all the work we’ve done together previously in the tests I’ve completed.”
There will be a couple of other new faces appearing during the weekend, with Esteban Ocon driving in Friday practice for the Lotus team, and Adderly Fong making an appearance for Sauber. There’s another two day test taking place at Yas Marina after the racing is over too, so keep your eyes peeled for all those fresh faces attempting to impress!
