Welcome to F1Minute where Virgin Racing and McLaren become wind-tunnel and technical partners.
Virgin Racing have today confirmed a deal with McLaren to share technical knowledge, as the team look for a way forward after leaving their partnership with Nick Wirth’s research company.
The deal with McLaren gives Virgin access to their wind tunnel, an important step for the team who came into Formula One with the aim of being solely reliant on computational fluid dynamics. The partnership will also provide Virgin with some McLaren technical staff to help aid the transition.
Virgin have also bought the Wirth Racing Technologies business, part of the research group that were dedicated to the team, and their workshops, to give them a team base in the UK.
CEO of Virgin Racing, Andy Webb, spoke of the news, saying: “We can benefit enormously from McLaren’s far-reaching techniques and capabilites and I have no doubt that this partnership will see us take the technical steps necessary to make a significant leap forwards.”
