This is F1Minute - Vettel claims pole from McLaren in Abu Dhabi.

Qualifying for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix started in the sunshine, and gradually turned into the night. It began with Rubens Barrichello unable to leave the garage in his Williams, after a change of engine for FP3 went wrong.

Williams have been struggling with their engines recently, and Pastor Maldonado - who qualified 17th - will join Rubens on the back row after a ten place drop for using his ninth engine. Lewis Hamilton was fastest for the first session, as Michael Schumacher just managed to scrape through.

Q2 was red flagged midway through, after Felipe Massa hit a bollard that had already been knocked over, and scattered the parts over the track. Lewis Hamilton was fastest again, and again, Michael Schumacher just managed to scrape through.

The top ten shoot out was between five complete teams - Red Bull, McLaren, Ferrari, Mercedes, and Force India. It was the usual names scrabbling for pole, Hamilton set the benchmark, but was beaten by the ever-dominant Sebastian Vettel, who takes his 14th pole position of the year.
