The first pre-season test of 2015 got underway in Jerez, with Sebastian Vettel setting the pace for Ferrari in his first outing for the team. Fernando Alonso was making his debut for McLaren and wasn’t quite so lucky - he only completed six laps as the car spent most of the time in the garage with a power unit issue. Honda have said they believe they have fixed the problem already though, so tomorrow should be better.
Mercedes were by far the busiest team of the day, launching their new car in the morning and then completing 157 laps with Nico Rosberg behind the wheel. Red Bull raised eyebrows for a different reason - Ricciardo completed 35 laps, and did have an issue with smoke coming from the back of the car towards lunchtime, but it was the black and white zebra-style interim livery that got people talking.
Meanwhile, Lotus have only just flown the car into Spain, arriving at the end of the first day. They believe Monday will be setup work and they may be ready to hit the track on the penultimate day of running.
