Welcome to F1Minute - Valencia dropped from provisional 2013 calendar.
The provisional F1 calendar for next season has finally made an appearance, with a copy passed to teams this weekend. The biggest change to the calendar is that Valencia has been dropped, with the new circuit in New Jersey filling its place. Scheduled for 16th June, the race in New Jersey is still noted as subject to confirmation, along with Germany at the Nüburgring, Singapore and Korea.
However, organisers of the Singapore event agreed a deal with Bernie Ecclestone to keep the night race on the calendar for another five years - up to and including 2017. As Bernie put it: “All of us like being here, which is what made it difficult for us to negotiate.”
Back to the provisional list, the five week summer break remains, with Hungary on 28th July and Belgium on 1st September. The season begins in Australia on 17th March, and ends in Brazil on 24th November.
Approval for the calendar will be sought at the World Motorsport Council meeting on 28th September.
