This is F1Minute - Tributes in India as focus returns to motorsport safety.
Both Mark Webber and Jenson Button will pay tribute to Dan Wheldon at the Indian Grand Prix - with black armbands and a DW logo on their helmets. Webber spoke of the tribute, saying: “I sent Jenson a text after the race in Korea and I told him I wanted to get some stickers made up for our helmets. I asked him if he was keen and he said he was. It’s a nice little sticker because we both knew him. It’s only natural he is part of us a little this weekend.”
Meanwhile, Sir Jackie Stewart - long time safety advocate - has said that F1 can’t sit back and ignore the recent events. He said: “There isn’t the absolute reaction that there would have been had there been racing the next day, but nevertheless they have to look at it very seriously because it could happen at any time.”
He also added that drivers need to have more of a say when it comes to safety, pointing out: “The drivers are the ones out there, and one time I know several of the officials said, they don’t know anything about the science or dynamic... but at the end of the day the driver is behind the wheel and he knows how far the car will go.”
