Welcome to F1Minute - Toro Rosso announce split with Giorgio Ascanelli.

Toro Rosso have announced one of those not-so-well-kept secrets that Technical Director Giorgio Ascanelli has resigned. Ascanelli disappeared from the F1 paddock ahead of the German Grand Prix with the team claiming he was on holiday, but now it has been confirmed that they have parted ways.

In the statement from Toro Rosso, team boss Franz Tost thanks the outgoing director for his work, particularly during the transition from customer team to “fully-fledged constructor.” Ascanelli himself is equally polite, but rumour has it his departure is due to a distaste of the direction chosen for development. The rumours also point to James Key coming in to replace him, but there’s nothing official on that front.

Meanwhile, the team are riding high off a double points finish at Spa, and driver Jean-Éric Vergne is keen to get back on track, saying: “It’s hard to say exactly what was better about our car this weekend. We will analyse everything that happened... with the intention of being even stronger in Monza next weekend.”
