Welcome to F1Minute - Sid Watkins tribute planned for Singapore race.
After the death of Professor Sid Watkins last week, tributes have been pouring in for the former FIA medical delegate. Now there will be an official nod to the popular doctor ahead of the Singapore Grand Prix, as the FIA have confirmed there will be one minute of applause in honour of Sid Watkins, on the grid at the Marina Bay Street Circuit.
There will also be a book of remembrance available in the paddock for anyone wishing to share their memories, and it will be given to his family afterwards. The book will be sat next to the bronze bust of Watkins that was sculpted when he retired from the FIA Institute in 2011.
The FIA also announced that they are considering the “most appropriate permanent tribute to Professor Watkins, in recognition of his achievements and his unique legacy for motor sport.”
President of the FIA Jean Todt has said of Sid: “He will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him, from doctors and drivers to officials and fans. Sid’s influence will live on for many years to come.”
