Pérez’s future has been sealed for at least one more season with the Force India squad, as the Mexican concludes a deal for the 2017 calendar year. It will be his fourth season with the team, and Pérez says: “I’m very happy with this team and I have a good feeling for the future. I’ve seen the progress we’ve made over the last couple of years and I’m sure we have the potential to achieve even more.”
There had been rumours that Pérez was eyeing a Renault seat, but has decided that Force India is the better option. Indeed, the Silverstone based team hint that the ball was entirely in Sergio’s court by heading up their announcement as “Sergio Pérez confirms his plans to stay.”
Pérez will have been buoyed by a sixth place finish in Malaysia, that added to his points tally and brought it to 74 this year. Pérez is sitting eighth in the driver’s championship, but crucially is one place and 24 points ahead of Nico Hülkenberg with just five races to go.
