Mexican driver Sergio Pérez has confirmed his own departure from McLaren in a statement released today. Signed by Pérez, the release thanks McLaren for the opportunity, says he will be committed to delivering the best he can for the final two races of the year, and that he'll always be a fan of the team.
He adds: "It has been an honour for me to have been in one of the most competitive teams in the sport and I do not regret even a bit having joined them. I've always given the best of me for the team and still despite this I could not achieve what I aimed for."
Of the future, there is little to note, but Pérez does say: "I will be looking at my future to ensure my position in the best possible package to fight for wins."
There's no indication of where Sergio might end up, but as a driver with strong financial backing, he shouldn't find it too hard to get a new seat. Meanwhile, there are strong rumours that rookie Kevin Magnussen will take the seat at McLaren after spending time as a development driver and appearing in a couple of tests for the team.
