This is F1 Minute - Sebastian Vettel takes emotional Italian Grand Prix victory.
Any predicted rain was non-existent over Monza today, as the sun shone throughout the whole race. Fernando Alonso had a lightning start off the line, he sailed past Sebastian Vettel to take the lead into the first corner.
At the rear of the field, Tonio Liuzzi lost control of his HRT, missed the corner completely and barrelled straight into the side of Petrov. The pile-up from this incident took out Petrov, Liuzzi, and Rosberg. Several drivers were held up, and some had to pit early to inspect the damage.
The safety car came out, and on the restart, Lewis Hamilton was slow away, and overtaken by Schumacher. There followed two long stints where the McLaren was struggling to get past the Mercedes - to a point where Ross Brawn had to get on the radio twice and warn Schumacher about his defensive driving tactics. Hamilton eventually got the position.
The other major battle upfront was between Alonso and Button. Having lost the lead back to a dominant Vettel, Alonso had to settle for third with Button second. Mark Webber collided with Felipe Massa, lost his front wing, and crashed out of the race.
