Hello and welcome to F1Minute for the 26th May 2011.

Free Practice took place in Monaco today, with Sebastian Vettel leading the way in the first session and Fernando Alonso taking over the top honours in FP2.

The morning session got off to a slow start, with just a few cars testing out the track, but gradually more drivers got involved. There was plenty to worry about on the surface of the circuit, as a truck fire earlier in the week had caused hurried repairs to the surface at the Ste Devote corner. Free Practice 1 was also red flagged briefly, while officials investigated some water leaking onto the circuit.

Mark Webber only managed three installation laps in the morning, as his Red Bull had gearbox troubles. He was back out on track for FP2, however. Tonio Liuzzi took his turn in the garage, sitting out the entire afternoon practice due to some hydraulic problems on the HRT, discovered after quite an impressive accident by him in the first 90 minutes. Other drivers to meet the barriers through the day included Michael Schumacher, Vitaly Petrov, and Jaime Alguersuari.
