Sauber’s chief designer Matt Morris has left the team to almost immediate effect, with a role in the McLaren squad waiting for him. Morris has been with the Swiss team since 2011, making his way up from Head of Mechanical Design to the Chief Designer position. However, Sauber confirmed that Eric Gandelin will be replacing him in the role as of 1st July, with Morris’ leaving date still to be decided.
When Matt is released from his contract, he will move to McLaren as Engineering Director. Sporting Director Sam Michael talked of the engineering reshuffle that is going on at McLaren as they try and improve their current position and bolster their chances of good results in 2014.
He said: “Matt’s appointment is the first step in an ongoing programme to strengthen the engineering department as our organisation prepares for the arrival of Honda in 2015... I’m looking forward to him joining, I worked with him at Williams... so he will fit in very well with Tim Goss.”
