Welcome to F1Minute - Pirelli announce tyre compounds for Canada through to Britain.
F1’s sole tyre supplier Pirelli have confirmed the tyre compounds for three more races, with the rubber set to stay the same as it did this time last year. This weekend’s Grand Prix in Monaco has the already announced soft and supersoft compound, with the next race in Canada following the same pattern. Both races are twisting street circuits and have similar tyre requirements.
Valencia is a street circuit but is of a completely different nature to the previous two, and will feature some higher temperatures, so that Pirelli have opted for the soft and medium compounds instead. Finally, for the British Grand Prix, the tyres will go back two steps apart with the soft and hard tyre making an appearance.
Tyres are a major topic of conversation at the moment, with Ferrari’s Pat Fry saying: “Small changes in track temperature have a large effect on tyre performance.”
Meanwhile, Pirelli’s Paul Hembery says he’s expecting a great mix of strategies in Monaco, adding: “You would have to guess it’s going to be pretty exciting..."
