This is F1Minute - Norbert Haug steps down as Head of Mercedes Motorsport.
Mercedes have today announced that Norbert Haug will conclude his career as Head of Motorsport for the company after 22 years in the position. His contract comes to an end at the end of the year, and by mutual agreement, it will not be renewed.
CEO of parent company Daimler, Dr Dieter Zetsche said of Haug: “For me, he put his stamp on a whole era and, as a highlight, he was responsible for the successful comeback of the Silver Arrows to Formula One.”
Haug himself isn’t so happy with the recent tidings, saying: “Unfortunately, with one victory in 2012 since founding our works team in 2010, we couldn’t fulfil our own expectations. However, we have taken the right steps to be successful in the future. Our team and our drivers will do everything to achieve these goals.”
2012 has been the team’s worst of the three seasons, despite the victory, as they finished fifth overall. However, for the coming season there’s a fresh lineup of Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg who are both determined to move things forward.
