Welcome to F1Minute - Monisha Kaltenborn takes over team principal role at Sauber.
We knew that Monisha Kaltenborn was waiting in line to relinquish Peter Sauber of his team principal role at the Sauber team, and the squad announced that today, the day has finally come.
Peter has pointed towards the performance of the team this season, regardless of whether he has been present at the races or not, as proof that Monisha is the woman for the job. He said: “Now is a good time for both of us, so this is the right moment to pass on the baton. I’m in no doubt that Monisha has all the necessary skills to be an outstanding team principal.”
Meanwhile, after their fourth podium of the season, the team are eyeing up Mercedes in the constructor’s championship, with chief designer Matt Morris saying: “We have got a faster car than them at the moment. I doubt they will be putting any big upgrade packages on for the rest of the year, so we just have to be clever and composed and take points out of them every race weekend.” Sauber currently sit 20 points behind the fifth place Mercedes team.
