Multiple world champion Michael Schumacher is in a critical condition in a French hospital after enduring severe head injuries during a skiing accident on Sunday. The former Mercedes driver was taken to hospital yesterday, and placed in an induced coma after undergoing an operation to reduce the pressure on his brain.
Doctors at the CHU hospital in Grenoble held a press conference today to confirm Schumacher’s life-threatening condition, adding: “For the moment, we cannot say what Michael Schumacher’s future is. We are working round the clock - we are trying to win time.”
They confirmed that one operation had taken place but that no further operations are planned at this time, and that, of course, the helmet he was wearing protected him “at least partly.”
Naturally, positive thoughts and wishes have been pouring in from all involved in F1. Fellow German and ex-teammate Nico Rosberg said it best: “My thoughts are with Michael, his family and friends. If anybody can do it, then it’s Michael. Hope for good news soon.”
