The Mercedes team have welcomed the 2014 change in regulations with open arms, mostly because they’ve been incredibly successful but also because of the relevance the new rules have to road cars. To show their faith in the new-look F1, the team have rebranded their F1 car the F1 W05 Hybrid, and from the Spanish Grand Prix onwards, each chassis will run with a hybrid logo on the side.
It’s a change from some of the more negative responses we’ve seen and heard to Formula One in 2014, but Executive Director (Business) Toto Wolff explains: “What we’re seeing in Formula One today is the next generation of innovations that will eventually find their way from the race track to the road. Mercedes-Benz is leading the way in promoting the positive new direction the sport has taken.”
As the very start of the Mercedes statement says: “The technical revolution of 2014 can be expressed in one simple phrase: the engine is no more, long live the Power Unit!”
