The Mercedes team say they are ready and willing to face the FIA’s International Tribunal regarding the Pirelli test that followed the Spanish Grand Prix, hoping for a chance to explain all the facts and their side of the story.
A statement from the team reads: “Sporting integrity is of primary importance to Mercedes-Benz and we have the utmost confidence in the due process of the FIA.”
Their reaction comes directly after the governing body revealed they would be taking the Pirelli test issue to the tribunal, having reviewed the information they collected from teams and the stewards in Monaco.
The FIA’s statement says they hope to “close the case as regard to Scuderia Ferrari Team” and continues that their test following the Bahrain race does not break the rules as they used a 2011 car. However, the Mercedes test is to be decided upon because “the conditions of this testing may constitute a breach of the applicable FIA rules.” No date has been set for the hearing as yet.
