The battle between Rosberg and Hamilton may be twisting and turning its way towards a conclusion, but as a team, Mercedes have already solved the problem of 2016. They have led the championship from the very beginning, winning 16 of the 17 races so far, and in Japan, they wrapped up the 2016 Constructors’ Championship, securing their third title in a row.

Head of Motorsport, Toto Wolff, paid tribute to his team, saying: “The story begins on the shop floor of our team and goes all the way to the board room. It is a tale of passion, commitment and incredible people working beyond their limits to win. And not just doing it once, but re-motivating themselves to surpass their achievements year after year.”

After the race, the crew donned their celebratory t-shirts, not a surprise they had them to hand as they have 200 points over Red Bull with four races still to go. Even Hamilton who had a difficult weekend, said “Everyone has done a fantastic job and to have this success three years in a row is incredible.”
