Fresh from Sergio Pérez's statement confirming he will not be a McLaren driver after the end of this season, the team have revealed their driver lineup for 2014. Jenson Button will continue into his fifth year with McLaren, whilst rookie racer Kevin Magnussen will join the team for his first year in Formula One.
Magnussen has been linked with the role for a few weeks, and as son of former F1 driver Jan Magnussen, the 22-year-old Dane has racing in his blood. He has been racing for the past two years in the Formula Renault 3.5 Series, taking the title this season.
For Kevin, this is his dream role, as he describes what could be labelled an obsession: "This team is the best. It's been my dream to drive for McLaren ever since I was a small kid, and it's no exaggeration to say that I've dedicated almost every day of my life to achieving the goal of becoming a McLaren F1 driver."
Team Principal Martin Whitmarsh welcomed their new driver to the fold and paid tribute to the outgoing Sergio Pérez, calling him "a lovely guy."
