After much hype by media and fans alike, the McLaren F1 team have finally confirmed their driver line-up for 2015, although they are retaining both drivers from 2014. Kevin Magnussen becomes reserve driver as Jenson Button partners with the returning Fernando Alonso for next season.
There had been a lot of talk of 2014 being Button’s last year in Formula One, but the Brit will continue for at least one more season. And Fernando Alonso comes back to the team, as he says his acrimonious split with McLaren after the 2007 season was his only regret in the sport and he wants to put it right.
The media event held at the McLaren Technology Centre today talked up the revamp of the entire squad, with a new driver pairing, the incoming Honda engine partnership, and of course the return of Ron Dennis to the helm. The man himself made no apology for the delay in confirming their 2015 drivers, and said he’s delighted to welcome in the new era of McLaren-Honda.
