The McLaren team have revealed a new way of thinking when it comes to designing their new car. With the incoming Peter Prodromou from Red Bull comes an all new aerodynamic concept, revealed during their car launch for the 2015 season. The idea is to stop concentrating so hard on what works well in the wind tunnel, as it doesn’t always translate to the track.
As racing director Éric Boullier explains: “We are trying to make sure we can give our drivers the ability to exploit the car to the limits, which means getting this performance package. If you have a performing car and a driver cannot drive it, then it’s obviously a waste. We want to make sure our drivers can drive the car to the limit, which means we will exploit to the limit. And this is where the new philosophy is turning to.”
Although the team have launched the new MP4-30, with a streamlined silver livery with red seams and wing mirrors, they are already planning upgrades to arrive in Jerez and Australia.
