McLaren became the first team to officially launch their new car, unveiling the 2014 machinery at the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking. Drivers Jenson Button and Kevin Magnussen were photographed next to the car and interviewed for the online launch.
The two most noticeable aspects about the MP4-29 are the almost wholly silver livery, due to no main sponsors at the time of the launch, and the McLaren’s take on the nose. The front of the car is getting a lot of attention this pre-season, and McLaren have opted for a nose with a single point and big air intakes on either side.
Rookie driver Magnussen was excited to see the launch, saying: “The car this year is going to behave very differently to the old car. It has generally a lot more power than last year and downforce is different. It’s very fun, it’s going to be a big challenge. In a way it’s good for me as it puts every one on zero again in terms of driving style.”
Meanwhile, Managing Director Jonathan Neale pinpointed the toughest part of the new season: “We’ve had amazing reliability brought on by some of the changes in the regulations, I think we’re going to take a big reset on that, it’s a huge challenge for everybody.”
