The McLaren team became the second F1 outfit to remove the covers from their 2013 car, with Jenson Button and Sergio Pérez unveiling the MP4-28 in a launch event at the McLaren Technology Centre. Presented by Natalie Pinkham and streamed online for the viewing public, the launch began with a tribute to founder Bruce McLaren, before some historic McLaren cars crossed the lake and entered the factory.
Finally the new car was revealed, strikingly similar to last year’s with no stepped nose. Jenson Button explained that there were changes, however, saying: “I tell you, this is completely different to last year. Under the skin, it's so different, I think that's why this is such an exciting season.”
Both Button and Pérez seemed to get on together, as well as brand new teammates can, laughing and joking throughout. Of the challenge ahead, Pérez says: “It’s definitely going to be an exciting few weeks: although I’ve been racing in Formula 1 for the past two seasons, every racing car is different and it always takes a little time to adjust.”
