Ahead of the first day of testing, Marussia rolled out their 2013 car to the waiting media, presenting the MR02 for the first time. The car, which was noticeably devoid of any significant sponsorship, has taken some big steps in development, particularly as the team will be running KERS for the first time in 2013.
As their statement reveals: “This created a busier-than-usual programme for the designers as they sought to integrate the system whilst, at the same time, reducing the overall weight of the chassis, maintaining stiffness and meeting the demands of the mandatory FIA crash tests.”
The car does not feature the stepped nose, and has new sidepods and a more aggressive exhaust design, Coanda-style.
Team Principal John Booth says of the new car: “We embark on the first pre-season test of 2013 feeling very positive about our new car - the MR02 - and what lies ahead in this next important chapter in the development of the Marussia F1 Team.”
