Welcome to F1Minute - Marussia F1 confirm Charles Pic for 2012.
The Marussia Virgin team have confirmed that French driver Charles Pic will be part of their race lineup for next season. Pic participated in the young driver test for the team in Abu Dhabi a couple of weeks ago, and has been strongly linked with the race seat ever since. Pic will be brought in to replace Jérôme D’Ambrosio, with Timo Glock staying on for another season.
Talking of the news, Pic said: “I’m very happy to be making the step up to Formula 1 with Marussia Virgin Racing. As a driver you always feel you are ready for the next opportunity but in Abu Dhabi last week it was a tough test... I like the team a lot; we worked well together in the test and I feel very comfortable.”
Meanwhile, team boss John Booth added that they liked Pic’s focus and improvement over such a short space of time, and they’re looking for more ahead of the pre-season testing.
He also paid tribute to D’Ambrosio, saying: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank Jérôme for his hard work and important contribution. He has an exciting future to look forward to I’m sure, and we wish him every success.”
