Jenson Button has become the next name on the list of F1 drivers to have their future speculated about, after the Brit admitted that he hadn’t signed with McLaren for next season. The team have an option to keep Button for 2014, but have so far not picked it up.
However, Team Principal Martin Whitmarsh is keen to keep the stability of a continuing driver lineup for next year, saying: “I think our guys deserve another go at it. They have done a good enough job and they are a good couple of drivers. They deserve a better McLaren next year and that’s what we’re hoping to give them.”
For his part, Jenson wants to stay at the team despite a disappointing on-track performance so far this season. He said: “There’s a lot about the future that definitely appeals to me. It’s very exciting and there are new challenges.”
Whitmarsh has also put pay to any speculation about Kimi Räikkönen in talks with the team saying they had been in discussions last year but, quote: “This year we’ve had no talks - yet.”
